DEARBORN - The Lebanese International Business Council of the United States, with the help of other various community members in Michigan is proud to announce the establishment of a computer center in Akkar, Lebanon. The center is located in Beit Mallat and is expected to serve over 700 students aon an annual basis.
The establishment of the computer center was able to move forward with the aid of only $30,000. The LIBC partnered with Koudourat, a non-profit organization, who were in charge of managing the construction of the center. Additionally, Netways, an informational technology company based out of Beirut was also a collaborative partner on the project, as they were able to recruit an instructor who will be attending the center on Mondays through Saturdays.
So far over 40 people have registered to start training at the center beginning on November 26th. The students range from various villages in the country including Memne, Tekrit, Beino and Beit Mellet. The LIBC organized different courses centered around the computing center after conducting a study to see what type of education is needed. The courses being offered are; Computer + Internet Basics, English Basics Level 1 and Level 2, MS Office (Word Level 1 and 2, Excel Level 1 and 2,), 2D-3D, HTML, Photoshop and Internet Search + Social Media.
The LIBC says that they are willing to establish more centers in different villages if people are able to contribute $30,000, whether it’s one individual or a group of people combined.
“This is a blessing for the poor students who cannot afford computers or classes on computers and who don’t know how to use the internet. This is the third center in Lebanon offering these services to the underprivileged youth in remote areas. Congratulations to the community in Michigan, to the LIBC USA and to all the donors from Akkar and other parts of Lebanon for a job well done,” Nassib Fawaz, president of the LIBC stated.
