LANSING — Muslim Americans from across the State are expected to gather at the capitol in honor of Michigan Muslim Capitol Day on May 29, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This year’s event will take place on the State’s capitol lawn. Officials from Governor Rick Snyder’s office and leaders from both the Democratic and Republican parties will participate in the event as well.
Muslim Americans will have the opportunity to meet their elected officials, discuss issues in their own communities and better determine their community’s role in moving Michigan forward. Participants will also be able to attend State House and Senate sessions, meet with legislators, and enjoy lunch with key leaders.
For more information on the events, or to participate, contact the Michigan Muslim Community Council at 313.923.7786, or the group’s civic engagement coordinator, Amina Iqbal, at amina@mimuslimcouncil.com. Registration is also available at michiganmuslimcapitolday2013.eventbrite.com.
