WAYNE COUNTY – The Wayne County Airport Authority will receive a $9 million federal grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to renovate runway 05R/23L at Willow Run Airport.
“Willow Run Airport’s 24-hour schedule helps fuel the economic engine in Southeast Michigan,” said U.S. Sen. Carl Levin. “This funding for runway improvements will help ensure that Willow Run continues its top notch service for business and cargo planes.”
The grant will benefit Southeast Michigan companies that depend on business and cargo plane service at Willow Run Airport.
Willow Run Airport is a leading air cargo and general aviation facility that handles 200 million pounds of cargo each year, leading to the contribution of $85 million to the regional economy and supporting 1,500 jobs across Michigan.
