DETROIT — On Tuesday, the Detroit City Council passed a resolution, supporting a petition created by the NAACP that is aimed at getting federal charges brought against George Zimmerman.
The legislation was sponsored by Councilwoman JoAnn Watson and led to a discussion on violence in the City. Councilman Kenneth Cockrel, Jr. said that the City needs to have the same level of outrage over black on black crime that has been taking place frequently. Zimmerman was acquitted on July 13 of second degree murder charges in the killing of Trayvon Martin, a Florida teen.
