DEARBORN-The City of Dearborn recently installed 25 high energy-efficient light bulbs and electric car-charging stations in the parking lot of the Henry Ford Centennial Library. The environmentally friendly lights were revealed by Mayor Jack O’Reilly, Jr. on Friday, Aug. 9.

The new lights are a part of the Adopt-A-Watt program; a privately funded national program that promotes energy efficiency. Dearborn had been previously involved in the program. In 2009, the City installed over 100 energy efficient light bulbs in parking structures in west Dearborn, with the help of Adopt-A-Watt.
The mayor explained that the program helps the City save money and increases its sustainability.
During the unveiling, Jay Williams, executive director of the U.S. Office of Recovery for Auto Communities and Workers, congratulated Dearborn and Adopt-A-Watt, and also read a letter from President Barack Obama to the City.
“Adopt-A-Watt provides opportunities for businesses to sponsor clean technology and clean energy infrastructure, helping to protect our environment and saving money for taxpayers and consumers,” Obama said. “As you launch this program, I congratulate Sen. Carl Levin, Mayor John O’Reilly and Dearborn Sustainability Coordinator David Norwood on their commitment to this cause.”
