Ann Arbor — The University of Michigan recently received a $200 million donation from real estate developer and Miami Dolphins owner Stephen M. Ross.
The gift is the largest donation ever given to the school. Ross allocated the money to the University’s business school and athletic department.
Including his most recent gift, the real estate developer has donated a total sum of $313 million to the University. The gift was announced by U of M on Wednesday, Sept. 4.
Ross is a Detroit native. He received a business degree from the University of Michigan in 1962 and a law degree from Wayne State University in 1965. He currently lives in New York, where his successful real-estate business is based.
“Stephen Ross’ vision has always been about the ability of facilities to transform the human experience,” University President Mary Sue Coleman said in a statement on Sept. 4. “He understands the power of well-conceived spaces, and his generosity will benefit generations of Michigan students, faculty and coaches.”
In 2004, the University renamed its business school the Ross School of Business in his honor after receiving a $100 million gift from him.
The gift will be used for career services space and a recruiting center, new study spaces, better technology for classrooms and scholarships for business students.
