DEARBORN — Ibrahim Beidon, 59, of Dearborn passed away Friday, Sept. 20, after being hit by an SUV on Warren Avenue in the evening that same day. He was rushed to Oakwood Hospital afterwards, and passed away there. Beidon was a supporter of The Arab American News, and volunteered his time to the paper. The incident occurred when Beidon was crossing near Payne Street at about 8 p.m., and got hit by a Dodge Durango, driven by another Dearborn man, 47. The driver was not injured.
While the incident is still being investigated, police say alcohol is not a factor and that it appeared to be an accident.
There are reports that Beidon was not crossing at a traffic light and that it was dark and raining outside when the SUV struck him.
Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad called the incident a tragedy and urged drivers to remain vigilant. Haddad added that pedestrians should use crosswalks.
People from the community made comments on the internet over Beidon’s passing. One woman said, “He was a wonderful and very loving member of the community. He will be missed and may God give his family the strength to get through this.”
According to a community Facebook page, Beidon is survived by his wife Nasra; children, Khalil, Allaa, Chamma and Adam; brothers, Mohammad, Nizar, Fouad, Anwar and Jihad; and sisters, Aida Fawaz, Basma Baydoun, Wafa Baydoun, and Firial Baydoun.
