DEARBORN — The Michigan Supreme Court Justices, this week, selected Sam Salamey to serve as the 19th District Chief Judge for another two year term.

Judge Salamey has already served one full year as Chief of the 19th District Court, replacing former Chief Judge Richard Wygonik. In his first four months in office, Salamey managed to erase the court deficit, create major court efficiency and work closely with the other judges to improve employee morale.
In previous years, the court had been plagued with setbacks that included inner divisions stemming from lawsuits involving judges and court employees, often creating a tense environment.
When appointing chief judges, the Michigan Supreme Court Justices look for leadership, vision and administrative skills in a candidate. They select a chief based on which judge they feel has innovative ideas to best improve a courthouse and move it in the right direction.
Judge Salamey tells The Arab American News that he is looking forward to continuing his duties as Chief at the 19th District Court.
“I am honored to be chosen by the Michigan Supreme Court to serve as Chief Judge at the 19th District Court for another term. It is a responsibility that I take very seriously, and I will work hard every day to continue serving our community,” Judge Salamey says.
Judge Salamey made history last year as the first elected Arab American judge in the City of Dearborn.
