DEARBORN HEIGHTS-Community activist Rashid Baydoun announced this week that he will be seeking the position of State Representative in the 11th Michigan House District, which includes the communities of Dearborn Heights and Inkster, as well as portions of Westland, Garden City and Livonia.
Baydoun was previously the Executive Director of the Arab Civil Rights League (ACRL). He also was a supervisor for recruiting and public relations for the U.S. Census Bureau in 2010.
He is a graduate of the University of Michigan-Dearborn, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Communications and Psychology with a Minor in History. There, he also served as president of prominent organizations that included the Arab Student Union (ASU) and Students United for Peace and Justice.
For years, Baydoun has been active and involved in various community based organizations, including the Arab American Political Action Committee (AAPAC). In October 2012, Baydouyn was presented with the Great Expectations Award by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).
