Another day and another report about the
alleged corruption that led to Qatar winning the bid to host the 2022 World Cup
over the United States.

But the one that emerged on Sunday is
different.

English outlet The Sunday Times published a detailed report titled
“Plot to Buy the World Cup” which tracks a sum of $5
million that was allegedly used by Qatari Mohamed Bin Hammam to garner support
from his fellow FIFA executives at the time, including former CONCACAF
president Jack Warner. The article is based on emails and documents provided by
a senior FIFA insider.

The 2022 Qatar Bid Committee denied any wrongdoing and FIFA did not provide comment in
reaction to the report.

And while the media continues to dig up dirt,
FIFA chief investigator Michael Garcia is still preparing his own report that
will be submitted to the world governing body. And depending on what it
reveals, at least one FIFA executive committee member is open to a re-vote.

“If Garcia comes up with concrete evidence and
concrete evidence is given to the executive committee and to FIFA, then it [a
re-vote] has to be looked at very seriously,” said FIFA vice president Jim
Boyce.
