DETROIT — More than 60 people crowded Warren Evans’ campaign headquarters on Tuesday to witness Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan officially announce his backing for the former Wayne County Sheriff’s bid for Wayne County executive.
Evans is campaigning in a crowded field of candidates that include current Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano, Westland Mayor William Wild, State Representative Phil Cavanaugh, and County Commissioner Kevin McNamara.
“It is critical that we get a county executive who; one, has the experience to run a large organization budget and two, who knows the most pressing priority is we are going to deliver law enforcement services first,” Duggan said.
Dearborn City Council President Susan Dabaja was at the press conference and also threw her support behind Evans.
“I believe Warren Evans has the experience and vision to get Wayne County moving in the right direction,” Dabaja told reporters. “I’m confident that he will work diligently on our behalf, as he has a full grasp of what it takes to run a county government. He understands the struggles that families face and recognizes the importance of teaming with city government.”
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy was also on hand and extended her support for Evans two weeks after announcing that she would back him.
