DETROIT — Michigan voters have elected Dana Alicia Thompson, a University of Michigan law professor and director of the Entrepreneurship Clinic at Michigan-Law, to the Wayne State University Board of Governors.
Thompson won along with fellow Democratic candidate and former Michigan Supreme Court Justice Marilyn Kelly. Both women ran against two well-known Republican candidates who were on the 2012 Republican ticket for the same position.
“When Debbie Dingell, a woman whom I greatly admire for her strength, tenacity and courage, first approached me about running to replace her on the Wayne State University Board of Governors, I took it as a compliment and wanted to pass on the opportunity” Thompson said. “But she insisted— and others did— that I can do this. The more than 1.2 million votes I received in Tuesday’s election is a clear mandate to fight for access and affordability at Wayne State University.”
