DEARBORN — Early on the morning of Nov. 20, Dearborn police officers observed a red Jeep Liberty, which had been reported stolen from Warren. While patrolling a neighborhood struck by thefts of catalytic converters, officers observed the jeep cross Tireman into Detroit and stop near a parked vehicle. Three men got out. One was seen jacking up a parked car while another went under the car with a reciprocating saw. The men fled when officers, suspecting a theft was in progress, attempted to stop them. The subjects were apprehended after a brief vehicle and foot pursuit.
Seven catalytic converters and various other items were recovered from the jeep.
The three suspects— Larry Darnell Malone, Jimmy Lee Rayford and Howard Anthony Holmes Jr.— were charged with larceny from auto, receiving and concealing a stolen motor vehicle, breaking and entering and malicious destruction of property.
Malone and Rayford were given $100,000 cash bonds and Holmes a $50,000 cash bond by 19th District Court Judge Mark Somers.
