TROY — The Arab American and Chaldean Council (ACC), a premier nonprofit human service organization serving southeast Michigan, announced president and CEO Dr. Haifa Fakhouri has been named Arab American Business Woman of the Year by the Arab American Women’s Business Council (AAWBC). The award was presented at the AAWBC Annual Networking Breakfast on Nov. 24.
Fakhouri co-founded ACC in 1979 as a nonprofit human service organization providing services to the Middle Eastern and mainstream communities in Southeast Michigan. Celebrating its 35th anniversary in 2014, ACC has grown to 40 outreach offices in the tri-county area, serving more than 80,000 on an annual basis.
“We are honored to present this award to Dr. Fakhouri and thank her for decades of service to those in need in the Detroit area,” said Renee Ahee, executive director, Arab American Women’s Business Council. “Her vision back in 1979 to create a human services organization and her desire to help others continues to this day. She is a very deserving recipient of this award.”
“I am honored and humbled to receive this award,” Fakhouri said. “The work the ACC does in the community is really a testament to our corporate sponsors, individual donors and volunteers who give so much of their time to help others.”
