The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has formally announced that the Secretary of Homeland Security Jen Johnson, has approved a request made by the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) to extend and redesignate Temporary Protective Status (TPS) for Syrian nationals currently in the United States. In November, ADC filed a request to Secretary Jeh Johnson, urging him to redesignate and extend the protection for Syrian nationals. ADC has previously submitted TPS requests to DHS in April of 2013 and January of 2012, both of which were granted.Secretary Johnson is extending the designation of the Temporary Protective Status (TPS) for Syrian Nationals for 18 months, from April 1, 2015 through September 30, 2016. The redesignation of Syria allows additional individuals who have been continuously residing in the U.S. since January 5, 2015 to obtain TPS. |
