ROCHESTER HILLS — Gage Garmo, a 17-year-old Chaldean Rochester High School senior who battled cancer, died on Monday, just one day after meeting hip hop superstar Eminem. The Rochester Hills based charity The Rainbow Connection arranged the meeting between the terminally ill teen and the rapper.
According to the charity, Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers, made a surprise visit to Garmo’s home on Sunday evening for about an hour.
“The smile he had on his face when Eminem was sitting next to him was out of this world,” Rainbow Connection wish director Ingrid Todt, told the Oakland Press. Garmo’s parents said they haven’t seen their son smile the way he did when he met Eminem in quite a while.
The rapper and Garmo discussed school, football and the recent Eminem concert Garmo attended.
The Rainbow Connection is a non-profit founded in 1985 by Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson. The group works to make the wishes of children throughout the state with life-threatening or terminal diseases come true.
