LIVONIA — Hundreds attended a commemoration ceremony honoring the life of 26-year-old Jordanian pilot Lt. Muath al-Kaseasbeh on Sunday, Feb. 8 at the St. Mary’s Cultural Center. Al-Kaseasbeh was burned alive by “Islamic State” terrorists last week. He was placed in a cage in an orange jump suit drenched with a flammable liquid.
Al-Kaseasbeh was burned to death before a bulldozer leveled the cage with his burning body in it.
Arab Americans, including Lebanese, Iraqis and Syrians, attended the ceremony in order to show support for members of metro Detroit’s Jordanian community.
The event was organized by the Jordanian American Community Association of Michigan in collaboration with the Honorary Consulate of Jordan. It attracted people of different backgrounds and religious denominations including Orthodox, Catholic, Shi’a and Sunnis.
The event included a diverse group of speakers who condemned the ISIS saying the terrorist group doesn’t represent Islam.
