TRAVERSE
CITY—Members of Fordson High School’s Key Club participated in the 64th annual
Michigan District of Key Club Service Leadership Conference in Traverse City
March 13-15. This year’s theme was service around the world.
Key
Club members from all over the state came together to celebrate the year in
service. Some of the workshops FHS Key Club members attended focused on
packaging food for the needy, fighting hunger and public speaker training.
“It is important that our community knows of
the hard work and achievements we received this past weekend,” said Fordson
High School Key Club Advisor and language arts teacher Zinab Zriek. “Now people
from around the state know who we are and what we stand for. I embraced the
opportunity to show that, yes, most of our students are of Arab decent and
Muslim; but we are caring, compassionate, motivating, loving and are Americans
living the American Dream.”
FHS
Key Club students took home awards and came in first place in several categories.
Key
Club member Mohammed Ahmed received the Bulletin Editor award; Sarah Nasser won
the treasurer’s award; Zeinab Bazzoun received the Club Poster award and
Mohammed Abdulghani received a scholarship award.
The
FHS Key Club was also honored with the Single Service Award for helping the
Palestine Children’s Relief Fund raise more than $2,000 in the summer.
Zriek
earned the Greg Smith Faculty Advisor of the Year Award. She is the first
advisor in Michigan to receive the award.
