DEARBORN—On Friday, March 27
after 2 p.m. Dearborn Police were dispatched to a business on Telegraph because
a car was broken into and a woman’s purse was stolen.
A white male suspect was observed leaving the
scene in a blue Chevy van. A witness
followed the van and the victim contacted police from the scene. Dearborn Police responded to the scene and
encountered the van in the area of Warren and Greenfield.
When Dearborn Police Officers tried to
investigate the blue Chevy van, the suspect fled police in the vehicle and
began disregarding traffic control devices.
The suspect vehicle struck another vehicle and became disabled as a
result of the collision. The suspect
tried to make his disabled vehicle operational and attempted to drive away from
the crash scene in the disabled van.
Dearborn Police officers acted quickly to take
this suspect into custody and prevent him from further endangering the
community by his actions. The stolen
purse was recovered from the suspect’s vehicle.
The suspect was identified as Julian Aileni, a 31 year-old Belleville
man.
The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office approved
charges of Breaking and Entering an Automobile, Fleeing and Eluding in the second
Degree, Resisting and Opposing a Police Officer and Reckless Driving. Aileni was arraigned and given a $25,000 bond
for this incident.
“The watchful eyes in our community was
crucial to apprehend this suspect. The
combined efforts of our victim, witness and police officers resulted in the
apprehension of a man who clearly has no regard for the safety of the public,”
said Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad.
