DETROIT—On Sunday, May 24 community member and businessman
Tarik Salman Daoud passed away peacefully at his home in metro Detroit. He was 78.
Daoud, the CEO of Al Long Ford is survived by his wife, children and grandchildren. He was born in
Basra, Iraq on Jan. 9, 1937. Daoud moved to the United States in 1956. He
attended Highland Park High School where he learned to speak English, and then
graduated from Lawrence Technological University.
He started his career in 1963, selling new cars and learning
the business. In 1971, as general manager, he purchased Al Long Ford. Over the
years Daoud was recognized many times as a leader in the automotive community
and was nominated as Time Magazine Dealer of the Year in 2005.
Daoud was widely known for his charitable efforts. He was a
philanthropist whose passions included education, the arts and international
diplomacy. Daoud was honored with several civic awards and was graced with
being a recipient of the Ellis Island Medal of Honor for contributions made to
America. He also previously chaired the Arab American and Chaldean Council’s
board. Family members of Daoud called his love, generosity and kindness
immeasurable.
FUNERAL SERVICES
The family of Daoud has requested that a memorial visitation
take place Tuesday, May 26 from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Southfield Funeral
Home.
A requiem mass will take place Wednesday, May 27 at 12 p.m.
at the Basilica of St. Mary Church, 18100 Merriman Road. Livonia, Michigan
48152. A committal service will follow the requiem mass at Acacia Park Cemetery, 31300 Southfield Road Beverly Hills, Michigan 48025.
