off-duty Washington, D.C. police officer was one of two men shot in the early
morning hours of June 1 while sitting at a traffic light. The men then drove to
the ninth precinct of the Detroit Police Department.
Upon learning that
the incident occurred in Dearborn, Detroit police promptly notified Dearborn
Police that the two men arrived at the ninth precinct station with non-life
threatening gunshot wounds.
Both men were
transported to an area hospital and are in stable condition.
A preliminary
investigation by Dearborn Police indicated that the suspects’ and the victims’
vehicles were stopped for the traffic light on eastbound Michigan Ave. at
Miller Rd.
While stopped, the
passenger in the suspect vehicle yelled something at the victims and the
suspect driver then fired an estimated four to eight shots into the victims
vehicle, striking both occupants. The victims fled for safety and arrived at
the ninth precinct a short time later.
The victim driver,
a 34 year old Detroit resident, suffered a grazing wound to his torso. The
32-year-old off-duty Washington, D.C. police officer sustained a wound to his
side.
The suspect
vehicle is described as a dark colored four-door sedan, possibly a Lincoln MKZ.
The driver is a dark-complexioned Black man in his twenties; the passenger is a
light-complexioned Black man, also in his twenties.
“This sort of
criminal activity will not be tolerated,” Dearborn Police Chief Ron Haddad said.
“The Dearborn Police Department will use all of its resources to identify and
arrest these suspects. We are especially asking for the public’s help in
identifying the suspects and sharing any information they may have about this
incident.”
