DETROIT—On Wednesday, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy announced that Mitchell Quinn, the ICE agent who fatally shot 20-year-old Terrence Kellom will not face charges in the Detroit resident’s death.
Worthy said that forensic evidence and the testimony of some people at the scene showed the killing of Kellom was “justified by the laws of self-defense.”
Kellom was shot by Quinn in April. Quinn was assigned to a multi-jurisdictional task force known as the “Fugitive Apprehension Task Force.”
The ICE officer was part of the task force executing an arrest warrant for Kellom who was wanted for armed robbery and felony firearms.
According to reports, the task force entered the home without force when Kellom came charging at the officers with a hammer and was shot.
The day after his son was gunned down by an ICE officer, Kevin Kellom spoke publicly about the shooting in front of his home on Detroit’s Northwest side. “They brought my son down the stairs and executed him in my face. My son died with a clenched fist, no hammer. My son reached for me and was shot twice in the chest. (After that), eight more shots rang out.”
Kellom had a criminal history dating back to his teens and was fatally shot on Detroit’s northwest side. According to reports, Quinn had been suspended from the Detroit Police Department in 2008 following a domestic violence incident in which he allegedly pulled his gun on his ex-wife in front of their son.
Kellom’s father said the search warrant was signed hours after his son’s death.
