DEARBORN – A young driver was killed after striking a female pedestrian and then hitting a pole on Friday, September 11.
Ali Aljanabi, 18, was driving his Ford Focus with his younger brother as a passenger on Greenfield Road near Paul Street, when witnesses said he hit a female pedestrian before his vehicle spiraled and struck a pole.
According to witnesses at the scene, Aljanabi was driving well over the speed limit when the accident occurred. Debris from the wreck was visible on Greenfield. Witnesses said the force of the crash caused the vehicle’s engine to bust out at impact.
One eye witness said Aljanabi wasn’t killed immediately, but that he died minutes later at the scene of the crash.

His brother was injured and taken to a local hospital. The female pedestrian suffered a broken leg.
Aljanabi was a Dearborn resident who had just graduated from Dearborn High earlier this year.
This marks the latest incident in a string of car accidents in Dearborn involving drivers and pedestrians. According to city officials, car accidents involving pedestrians have seen a significant uptick this year.
