DEARBORN – A local woman suffered a miscarriage after fleeing from armed suspects in her neighborhood on Thursday, April 14.
Ali Mcheik, a local singer, told The Arab American News that his 33-year-old wife Nasreen was three months pregnant when an incident in front of their home changed the course of their lives.
Nasreen suffered a miscarriage following an altercation with three armed suspects on Argyle street, where the couple resides.
Ali said the couple was preparing to run some errands on Thursday morning, when the incident occurred.
Nasreen was outside the home waiting for Ali near their vehicle, while he was still inside the house preparing to leave.
It was then when Nasreen had an encounter with the three suspicious males.
According to the couple, two of them were African American and the third was an Arab American.
Nasreen observed them standing in front of a neighbor’s home.
When the males spotted Nasreen from a distance, one of them shouted “stop her!”
An armed Black male began approaching her on foot.
In a state of panic, Nasreen immediately began running towards her house to take shelter and warn her husband.
However as she was climbing the few steps of stairs on her front porch, she tripped and took a hard hit on the pavement.
Ali said he was still inside the house when he had heard his wife screaming for help.
The three suspicious males fled on foot when Nasreen’s screams alarmed the neighborhood.
She was immediately rushed to Beaumont Hospital in Dearborn, where she suffered a miscarriage.
Ali said the incident has shaken the couple.
They had just moved into the neighborhood 9 months ago.
Nasreen remains in low spirits following the incident.
“Since she left the hospital she hasn’t left the house or gone outside,” Ali said. “She is terrified. The police keep patrolling our neighborhood to make sure we are safe.”
It remains unclear if the three suspects were attempting to break into any homes.
Dearborn Police Chief Ron Haddad last week told The Arab American News that residents should be on the lookout for suspects who roam neighborhoods on foot.
To report suspicious activity anonymously, call Dearborn’s Neighborhood Watch Program at (313) 943-3030. In case of an emergency, immediately call 911.
