DEARBORN- A 5-year-old Dearborn boy is being treated for brain cancer and has traveled to Philadelphia with his family for six weeks to undergo chemotherapy.
A short while ago, Zack Jaafar endured stomach pains and vomiting for two months. But doctors didn’t give him an MRI or cat scan.
One day, Zack woke up stating that he was seeing ‘double.’ He was rushed to the hospital where he underwent an MRI. Doctors discovered that he had a brain tumor.
When they learned that it had developed into a brain cancer, he underwent an extensive 13-hour brain surgery. But after the surgery was completed, doctors had learned that the cancer had reached his brain stem.
Since that day, Zack has underwent another surgery and has been traveling back and forth between the Metro Detroit area and Philadelphia.
He recently traveled back to Philadelphia with his family to undergo chemotherapy and radiation for six weeks.
Once Zack comes back from Philadelphia, he will start another round of extensive chemotherapy in Michigan for at least one year.
A gofundme page was set-up to assist Zack Jaafar and his parents Fadi and Reema Jaafar. Zack’s father, a doctor, has to leave work to be with his son.
The funds will be used for temporary housing in Philadelphia, medical expenses, bills, traveling expenses, and items for Zack that are a necessity for his cancer treatment.
