PONTIAC — In Oakland County, about 669 thousand residents voted, and there were no major surprises in the results. The county has sustained its Democratic leaning, as 51 percent of residents voted for Hillary Clinton.
Donald Trump received 43 percent of the votes.
Republican County Sheriff Michael Bouchard was re-elected, as about 59 percent (375,308) favored the Arab American incumbent over his opponent, Democrat Craig Covey, who received about 41 percent of the votes.
Seven candidates competed for four trustee seats in West Bloomfield Township, one of whom, Democrat Chaldean American Jim Manna, came in first with 20,200 votes (17 percent). Republican Chaldean American Paul Karmo came in sixth with 15,178 votes (13 percent).
In Bloomfield Hills, candidates competed for three seats on the school board. Arab American Jacqueline El-Sayed came in third with 7,727 votes (19 percent). First and second place winners Mark A. Bank and Cynthia E. von Oeyen received 24 and 23 percent of votes, respectively.
Arab American State Board of Education candidate Ish Ahmed received 21 percent (249,488) of the votes in the county, although Tom McMillin and Nikki Snyder won the most votes state-wide, securing the two available seats.
Oakland County Treasurer Andy Meisner, who was targeted with anti-Syrian ads, was reelected to four more years, receiving about 54 percent of votes (333,725).
Republican County Executive L. Brooks Patterson was also re-elected for his seventh term, defeating Democrat Vicki Barnett by about 47 thousand votes.
