TOLEDO —Once she noticed people’s tendency to ravage their health with unhealthy treats, Zobaida Falah decided to change that with a snack that’s healthy and tasty— and even a possible cure for world hunger.
Although the Palestinian American woman studied education at the University of Cincinnati, the subject of nutrition has always been one of her passions.
“I have always been interested in nutrition and promoting healthy eating and living,” she told The AANews. “The problem that I began to notice was that people sacrificed health for easy, durable treats. There were no energy/snack bars on the market that delivered a nutritious burst of energy, satisfied hunger and tasted delicious at the same time. I wanted to fill that gap and provide consumers with a deliciously nutritious energy bar that they could enjoy at any time.”
After college, Falah decided to study real estate and work as a realtor, while teaching part-time to save up enough start-up capital for a healthy snack business.
Once she launched Cure in April of 2016, she quit both of her jobs to devote all her time to it.
The 26-year-old created wholesome bars made up of curative ingredients inspired by her grandmother’s longtime recipe. She said her grandma used to feed her and her siblings a mixture of black seeds, honey and almonds every day.
On her business website, www. cureyourworld.com, she said her grandmother “remained fit as a fiddle as she lived to be over 95 years old” because of the mixture, adding that the most essential ingredient was the black seeds.
“She called [the mixture] her secret cure for everything,” Falah said. “As I grew older, I began researching this ancient seed and recognized the void it left in the market. I vowed to turn my grandmother’s concoction into a modern, durable treat that everyone could enjoy.”
She tweaked her grandma’s recipe a bit by adding some of her favorite super foods like chia seeds, coconut oil and gluten free oats to the original three ingredients and ultimately shaped the Cure bar.
Falah manages her business and supervises the members on her team who help her with manufacturing, marketing and social media.
She calls Cure a “lifestyle brand” that she wants to embed in societies to not only cure the human body, but also satiate hunger around the world.
“When you eat a Cure bar, you are not only taking a mindful initiative to eat more health consciously, but also you are giving back to the less fortunate,” she said. “Ultimately, our mission is to cure world hunger. We aim to do this through the mission the company is founded upon; the Get and Give program. What this means is that for every bar sold, a bar is given to someone in need.”
She said the program’s mission is to deliver these healthy snacks to the hungry.
“This delivers hope to the people receiving the bars and gives them a sense of belonging, knowing that this company was founded to help people like them,” she said.
Falah plans to expand her business to the point where her nourishing bars are found in every grocery store in the world. She also has some upcoming new projects that stick to to the “lifestyle brand and really encourage healthy eating and living.” Falah’s bars are available in stores in Ohio, online at the Cure website: www.cureyourworld.com and on Amazon Prime.
