DETROIT — Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has announced her endorsement of Gary Woronchak for the State Senate in the Third District.
“Gary Woronchak understands the challenges my office faces in fighting crime and will be an advocate to help us meet those challenges as a state senator,” Worthy said. “He has demonstrated leadership on the Wayne County Commission and has the experience that is needed in the State Senate.”
Woronchak, who is chairman of the Wayne County Commission, is a candidate for the senate seat currently held by State Sen. Morris Hood, who cannot seek re-election because of term limits. The district encompasses Dearborn and Melvindale and includes a portion of Detroit.
“Prosecutor Worthy is a nationally respected champion for justice and well-known here for her courage and tenacity,” Woronchak said. “I am especially proud to announce her as the first major endorsement of my campaign for the State Senate.”
“My experience from different levels of government has prepared me to be an effective legislator for the Third District,” Woronchak said. “That experience uniquely positions me, compared to other candidates, to deliver results as a senator for residents of Detroit, Dearborn and Melvindale. I’ve demonstrated my ability to work across partisan divisions in a time when polarization is hurting the Legislature’s ability to find common ground solutions to pressing issues.”
