Arab Americans and American Muslims have witnessed an extraordinary year in 2011. As we close out the year, we wonder if the Arab Spring begun in January will blossom, wither or simply stagnate.
Will our civil rights at home continue to evaporate now that the tenth anniversary of 9/11 has passed? Will the Occupy movement succeed in achieving social and economic parity among peoples? Will Palestine’s petition for statehood at the United Nations finally lead to peace and justice for this proud and long-suffering people? Will the country of Iraq achieve its own destiny with peace and justice for its people now that U.S. troops have been pulled out?
This has perhaps been the busiest news year since The Arab American News began in 1984. We have done our best to keep our readers up to date with what’s really going on. We appreciate your continued support and we pledge to you our continued efforts to tell the story of our history, our present and what we hope will be our future.
Merry Christmas and happy new year to all our Christian and Arab American readers.
