DEARBORN — Dearborn Police have issued citations to four local businesses in the city that were caught selling tobacco to minors during a compliance check on Tuesday. The tests were conducted by the Dearborn Police Explorers, which include minors who disguise themselves as adults in order to see if the businesses would I.D them and sell them any tobacco products.
The four businesses that were issued tickets were Andy’s Liquor Store on Greenfield, Dollar Kingdom on Warren Ave, the Citgo gas station on Warren Ave and Future Fuels on Michigan Ave, who all ended up selling tobacco products to the teen during the check-ups.
At the majority of the check-ups, a 17-year-old was able to purchase a pack of cigarettes. However at Dollar Kingdom, a patron who was only 15 was able to purchase tobacco for a hookah. At Andy’s Liquor Store, the 17-year old was still able to purchase cigarettes even after the cashier was made aware that he was underage.
