CLINTON TOWNSHIP — Four suspects have been arrested in connection to the killing of Basim Sulaka, the longtime Iraqi American owner of Moon Lite Party Store in Clinton Township.
Sulaka was shot to death when the four men robbed his store March 28. Clinton Rayshawn Grayson, 24, Darius Armond Diaz-Gaskin, 24, Kenneth Dawayne Hill, 26, and Jomar Davell Robinson, 25, were charged with murder, armed robbery and felony firearm possession.
They will be held without bond. Robinson was also charged with previous sex offender charges. Hill is from Clinton Township and the others live in Detroit. The four were arraigned on Monday. The charges are all punishable by life in prison. According to security camera footage and witnesses, the men entered the store on Harper Avenue around 11 p.m. the day of the murder. They jumped over the counter to empty the cash registers and kept an eye on the door, while the other gunned down and killed Sulaka in the back with a handgun.
Sulaka, 51, an immigrant from Iraq, first opened the store in 1996. He is survived by his wife and two daughters, who all live in Sterling Heights. In court, one of the men’s relatives approached Sulaka’s family and apologized for their loss.
