DEARBORN— On Tuesday at about 11 a.m., Dearborn Police, assisted by the Michigan State Police and the Downriver Mutual Aid Dive Team, recovered what is believed to be the body of a 27 year-old University of Michigan-Dearborn student who’d been missing since going into the Rouge River on May 13. The man’s body was located in the Rouge River not far from the campus of the university.
“The entire Dearborn Police Department expresses our condolences to the victims of this tragedy including the student’s family and University of Michigan Community,” Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad said.
The day the student went missing a concerned citizen called police stating that a male and female were in the Rouge River behind the Henry Ford Estate here.
The female, a 23-year-old Dearborn Heights resident, was located on the shore approximately 100 yards south of where they were initially observed. She was transported to an area hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Initial investigation indicates the male, a Plymouth resident, had gone into the water to assist the female.
