DEARBORN — On Friday, October 10, the Dearborn Police Department contacted Fordson High School with a possible threat to school safety. The school, located at 13800 Ford Road, has the largest student body of the city’s three high schools.
As precautionary measure, students were evacuated from the building. After 45 minutes, administration officials decided to send students home after police arrived and conducted an investigation to ensure safety. Students were dismissed at approximately 11:30 a.m., about three hours before the normal end of the school day.
Upon concluding the investigation, police gave the all-clear for staff to return to the school. The Arab American News contacted the police department for further details, but was told that the school was evacuated and students dismissed for precautionary measures.
The school sent out emails and placed phone calls to parents to inform them of the early dismissal. The police department had also sent out text message alerts through its Nixle program to inform residents.
“This was another example of the cooperation that exist between the Dearborn police and the Dearborn public schools to maintain a safe and secure school environment,” David Mustonen, spokesman for Dearborn Public Schools, said in a statement.
Students returned to school for normal hours on Monday, October 13.
