DETROIT-In response to reports of technical issues that put vehicles at risk for engine fires and unexpected door openings, Ford recently issued a recall on more than 440,000 vehicles in North America.
Its initial recall addressed over 230,000 Escape SUVs, Fiesta ST subcompacts, Fusion midsize cars and Transit Connect vans with 1.6-Liter turbocharged engines from 2013 to 2015.
The company is adding 211,000 additional cars to a prior recall to address faltering door latches. These recalls address 2014 Ford Fiestas and the 2013 and 2014 Fusion and Lincoln MKZ.
For the first recall, Ford is warning customers that engines may overheat, causing the cylinder to crack and leak flammable oil.
Ford said that drivers may continue to drive vehicles that are affected by overheating issues, however, they must go to a dealer if the cars overheat or frequently need coolant.
