DETROIT- Federal court documents revealed that an FBI interpreter working in Detroit secretly traveled to Syria three years ago to marry an ISIS terrorist leader she was supposed to be investigating.
Daniela Greene worked as a German translator in 2014 for the Detroit FBI office where she was helping inspect a German national who was an ISIS leader in Syria.
Authorities said that during the investigation, she warned the FBI about many online accounts and phone numbers as well as Skype accounts that were being used by the Denis Cuspert.
In the midst of investigation, court records said Greene fell in love with Cuspert. flew to Syria in the summer of 2014, married him and warned him that “the FBI had an open investigation into his activities.”
She then immediately became unhappy, left Syria and came back to the U.S., where she was detained.
In December 2014, Greene served two years in prison after pleading guilty to making a false statement linked to international terrorism. She was released last summer and is currently supervised.
Originally, the government wrapped the case, but then carefully unwrapped it in May 2015. It was overlooked until CNN discovered court documents in Washington recently.
