DEARBORN — Artwork from local students, ranging from kindergarten to high school, are on display alongside art from the Artists Society of Dearborn at the Padzieski Art Gallery throughout the month of June.
The students’ artwork is chosen from the annual Dearborn Public Schools Citywide Student Art Show.
“From that show the teachers select about 10 pieces and we put those together with the best of the Artists Society of Dearborn’s recent shows,” said Dearborn Community Arts Council Executive Director Ralph Valdez, “and that’s what we call Highlights.”
“Highlights: Artists’ Society of Dearborn and Dearborn Public Schools” opened on June 1 and will continue until June 28. The gallery is open from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays.
Located inside the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center, 15801 Michigan Ave, the Padzieski Art Gallery hosts a wide range of exhibits. From July 6-30 it will host “Hudson’s Historic Windows”, an exhibit that includes artwork that was used in the window displays and original photographs of the once iconic Hudson’s department store in downtown Detroit.
Then, from August 18-20, the gallery will host the “Senior Services Fine Art Exhibition”, which will include artwork from local senior artists.
The Padzieski Gallery is made available by the Dearborn Community Arts Council and the city of Dearborn. The DCAC was created in 1969 and attempts to “facilitate, encourage and support the arts in our diverse community”, according to its mission statement.
In 1989, the DCAC created the City Hall Gallery, located on the fourth floor of City Hall. That was the city’s gallery until fall 2001 when it officially moved into the Padzieski Gallery.
