TRENTON — Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Dr. Iqbal Abdul Nasir of Grosse Ile, for the embezzlement of over $100,000 in funds.
It is alleged that on Feb. 13, 2015, Dr. Iqbal Abdul Nasir — then president of Beaumont Trenton Hospital’s Medical Executive Committee — fraudulently placed the committee’s $116,000 deposit into his personal account.
Officials say Nasir also allegedly did not have permission to move any money from the committee’s account into his personal account.
On Monday, October 22, Nasir was arraigned before Judge James Kersten in the 33rd District Court. The probable cause conference is scheduled for October 30 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for November 6 at 10:3 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Kersten. Nasir received a $100,000 personal bond.

Beaumont Health issued a statement saying Nasir is a private practice physician who is not employed by Beaumont Health.
“Dr. Nasir was not appointed as chief of staff by Beaumont,” the hospital said in the statement. “He is a physician in a private clinical practice elected by his peers to be chief of the medical staff, a separate, independent body. The medical staff funds and controls the private bank account at issue. Beaumont and our donors do not contribute to it. The account covers professional development expenses, such as continuing medical education.
“The allegations against Dr. Nasir do not involve patient care, our highest priority,” the statement added. “We will work with local law enforcement and cooperate with this investigation. Dr. Nasir has some administrative duties at the hospital and leadership is evaluating appropriate next steps regarding those duties.”
