DEARBORN HEIGHTS – The Dearborn Heights Police Department confirmed that they have recently received reports of a potential threat targeting a local mosque.
The reports began coming in on Sept. 29, just 24 hours after the Grand Blanc church shooting.
The department is actively investigating the origin and nature of the threat while working closely with federal and local partners to identify who is responsible.
“We understand how unsettling incidents like this are – particularly when they are directed toward a place of worship that serves as a sanctuary for many,” Police Chief Ahmed Haidar said. “Let me be clear – we will not tolerate any acts of hate, intimidation, or violence in our city. Every resident, regardless of faith or heritage deserves to feel safe and respected – and our officers are dedicated to upholding that.”
While a person of interest has been identified, their identity is not being released due to still being in the early stages of its investigation.
“Our federal partners are actively working this case along with members of our detective bureau,” Haidar said. “We are confident whoever made this threat will be identified and brought to justice.”
Mayor Bill Bazzi said that the city will not tolerate threats of violence.
“We have zero tolerance toward any type of threat in our community,” he said. “Whether directed toward a house of worship, a business, a resident or visitor.”
