DEARBORN — The city has appointed Patricia Podzikowski as the new director of the Dearborn public  libraries, officially naming the longtime library professional to the position after several months of serving as interim director.

The appointment reflects the city’s continued commitment to strengthening its public library system and expanding the educational, cultural and community services it provides to residents. Podzikowski brings more than 25 years of experience within Dearborn’s library system, making her well-positioned to lead the department into its next chapter.

Mayor Abdullah H. Hammoud praised Podzikowski’s leadership during her time as interim director and expressed confidence in her ability to guide the library system’s future growth.

“Patty has provided steady leadership as interim director for the past several months, making her the ideal person to guide the Dearborn Public Libraries into the next chapter,” Hammoud said. “Dearborn is fortunate to have her expertise and commitment as we continue to evolve our library services to meet the needs of all Dearborn residents while continuing to provide excellent services to the community, library staff and its patrons.”

The mayor added that Dearborn’s libraries play a vital role in promoting lifelong learning, literacy and community engagement, and said the city looks forward to expanding library programs and services under Podzikowski’s leadership.

Podzikowski joined the Dearborn Public Library system in 1999 and has served in a wide range of leadership and professional roles over the past two and a half decades. Her positions have included assistant librarian, children’s librarian, cataloger, supervisor of the Adult Services Department, administrative librarian and, most recently, interim library director.

She earned a bachelor’s degree from Madonna University and a master’s degree in library science from Wayne State University. Her extensive institutional knowledge and experience, combined with her successful tenure as interim director, are expected to ensure a seamless transition and continued emphasis on community-focused library services.
