DETROIT — Wayne County voters renewed their confidence in County Executive Warren C. Evans, who moved closer to securing a fourth four-year term after easily winning Tuesday’s Democratic primary.

Evans, who has maintained close ties with the county’s Arab American community, received 221,375 votes, or approximately 88 percent. His challenger, Sigmunt John Szczepkowski Jr., received 29,171 votes, or about 12 percent, according to complete unofficial county results.

Evans will face Republican nominee Michael A. Evans in the Nov. 3 general election. Michael Evans ran unopposed in the Republican primary and received 65,633 votes.

The heavily Democratic makeup of Wayne County makes Warren C. Evans the clear favorite in November.

Since taking office in January 2015, Evans has guided the county through major financial and administrative challenges while building relationships among its diverse communities.

Over nearly 12 years, his administration has been credited with helping rescue Wayne County from the brink of financial collapse and restoring long-term fiscal stability.

Evans has also prioritized regional transportation, infrastructure improvements, public safety, economic development and programs supporting working families and small businesses.
