About a dozen Arab American community leaders and activists met with Libertarian Presidential candidate Bob Barr on Aug. 8 at Ollie’s restaurant in Dearborn. Barr visited the Islamic Center of America, spoke at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, and held a fundraiser at the Ritz Carlton during his visit to Dearborn. Barr is on the ballot in Michigan and said he wanted to speak to the community about issues not often addressed by main stream candidates. A recent Zogby poll indicated that a majority of likely voters nationwide, 55 percent, want the Republican-turned-Libertarian to participate in presidential debates this fall, while nearly half – 46% – said they think Ralph Nader should be allowed into the on-stage fray.
