The Michigan AFL-CIO endorsed Democratic gubernatorial candidate Virg Bernero last week.

Support from the coalition of 50 unions, representing some 600,000 workers and retirees, can give the Lansing mayor’s campaign a major financial and organizational boost.
Bernero, 45, will face fellow Democrats Andy Dillon, state House Speaker, and Alma Wheeler Smith, a state Rep. from Salem Township, in a summer primary.

Dillon, of Redford Township was endorsed Thursday by the Michigan Building and Construction Trades Council, which represents nearly 100,000 workers and retirees.

The Teamsters union and the Michigan Education Association have yet to endorse a candidate.
