LANSING — If unemployment benefits are not extended by the U.S. Congress, an estimated 90,000 Michigan resident unemployment checks may be cut off. Congress is expected to reach a decision once a replacement for the late Democrat Senator Robert Byrd of West Virginia is found. Any one receiving benefits for more than 26 weeks will be affected.
