On Oct. 6 Fairlane Ford Sales held a “Drive One 4 UR School” fundraiser at Melvindale High School to support its varsity cheerleading and basketball teams. The event was expected to raise $6,000; instead $3,900 was earned according to Jim Flynn, Assistant Sales Manager at Fairlane Ford Sales.
Fairlane Ford Sales donated $20 for every person from a household who test drove a 2011 Ford vehicle. Test drives were limited to five minutes. “Anything we can do to participate during economically challenging times is worth looking at,” Flynn said.
He also says the fundraiser was a great opportunity to introduce parents, teachers and other drivers to high quality lineup and innovative safety technologies. In the past year Ford Motor Company has supported extracurricular activities with programs similar to this. Drive One 4 UR School started in 2007 and over 173,000 participants have helped raise more than $3.3 million for about 700 high schools in the country. Fairlane Ford Sales has held two prior events in coordination with Melvindale High School.
