DETROIT — The Metro Detroit Youth Day executive board
announced it will hold its eleventh Annual Scholarship Reception Tuesday, June
14, at the Roostertail in Detroit.
“Our goal is to raise more than $50,000 to provide
scholarships to metro Detroit youth,” said Ed Deeb, Youth Day co-founder
and coordinator. “We want to
encourage them to pursue academics, a college education and stay in Michigan. At the very least, we can reduce the
financial burdens for children who can’t afford to go to school.”
The scholarships are awarded at the annual Metro Detroit
Youth Day, July 13, on the athletic field of Belle Isle. More than 750 scholarships have been
awarded since MDYD began 29 years ago.
Michigan Youth Appreciation Foundation is the funding
fiduciary for Metro Detroit Youth Day along with the Michigan Food and Beverage
Association.
The scholarship reception is sponsored by AT&T Michigan,
Pepsi Beverages Company, DTE
Energy, Sam’s Club, MGM Grand Detroit and Michigan Food and Beverage
Association, along with several other corporations and small businesses who
support the colorful Youth Day event.
The event will feature a silent sports and entertainment
auction. Tickets are $125 each and
can be purchased by calling the Metro Youth Day office at 586.393.8800 Monday
through Friday. The Michigan Youth
Appreciation Foundation goal is to raise $50,000 for scholarships to be awarded
to graduating high school seniors at the Youth Day event.
