On Tuesday Michigan Supreme Court Justice Diane Hathaway pleaded guilty to bank fraud, and conducting a two-year scheme to defraud her bank of $600,000 owed on a Grosse Pointe Park home. The guilty plea comes only eight days after she resigned from her seat on the highest court in Michigan. Barbara McQuade, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan says she plans on asking U.S. District Judge John Corbett O’Meara to give Hathaway 12-18 months in jail. Officials say they want to send a strong message out to the public that positions of high power are not above the law.
