KALAMAZOO — Nearly 400 people packed the St. Jo Gym in Kalamazoo. They were there to tell U.S. Rep. Fred Upton that now is the time for immigration reform, and that it’s time he met with immigrant advocates to make real commitments on the issue.
Members came from across Upton’s district – Kalamazoo, Sturgis, Hartford, Fennville, Covert, Bangor, South Haven, Dowagiac, Paw Paw, Pullman and other areas.
The crowd was joined by the national “Family Unity” bus tour for immigration reform, which is traveling to over 90 cities across the country, calling for comprehensive immigration reform to keep families together. People complained that even after being invited, Upton didn’t attend, nor did anyone from his office, despite hundreds of his constituents from his district being present.
