Dearborn parents have until June 15 to enroll their child in a new and exciting program. Starting in the fall of 2013, the program is designed for students who are age-eligible for kindergarten, but require additional time to develop their emotional, social, physical, or cognitive academic skills.
The program, known as Young Fives, allows children to attend classes five full days per week, follow the Dearborn Public Schools calendar and participate in all activities at Lindbergh Elementary (located at 500 N. Waverly, 48128). It is part of the K-12 state funded public school program and requires no fees, or tuition.
An eligible Young Five must be able to demonstrate the ability to participate in developmentally appropriate classroom and social activities as well as attend to personal needs independently. The additional year will allow students to develop at an individual pace and provide them with opportunities to explore all academic and enrichment areas that are available to kindergarten students.
At the completion of the Young Fives program, children will attend either a full year of kindergarten at their home school, or be recommended for 1st grade, based on individual growth as determined by the school team working with parents.
