DEARBORN — At first glance, Mike Berro appears to be your average teenager, who possesses an overt fascination of all things technological. However, at 17 years of age, he has already managed to establish his own successful business.
The Dearborn resident is both a web designer and developer, who looks forward to expanding his site, mikeberrostudios.com; a business that he started in 2012, when he was only 16.
“I consider myself the youngest entrepreneur in Dearborn,” said Berro.
According to Berro, some of the sites that he has helped build now have more than 100,000 users a month.
Some of his clients include popular small businesses and organizations, like iDeliver, Karma Lounge, WindRivers, A and Z Tech and many others. Berro says that within the span of only a year, his business has become quite popular.
The first time Berro designed a website was in his sixth grade computer class. However, the idea of going into web design would not take shape until he was in high school. |
In addition to web design, Berro’s company specializes in online marketing, graphic design, online stores and mobile apps.
The first time Berro designed a website was in his sixth grade computer class. However, the idea of going into web design would not take shape until he was in high school.
“I liked it, but it never hit me then. At the time I was planning on becoming a doctor,” he says.
Berro, a junior at Star International Academy in Dearborn Heights, says that he plans on going to Lawrence Technological Institute to obtain his bachelor’s degree in business administration.
His journey into entrepreneurship began unexpectedly in 2012, while browsing a website. Berro liked the design of the particular site and was interested in learning how it was created.
“I was looking at this site, and I really liked the way it looked. I was wondering how they got the graphics to look the way they did. I started playing with different computer programs to help build sites, and then one thing led to another,” he says.
Berro points out that there aren’t many web designers in Dearborn, even though the business is in high demand. He plans on securing his own office space soon and hopes that this will send the message to other youth in the community that anything is possible. Berro explains that he also plans on setting up a web-coding page on his site for interested youth to learn from.
“I was reading yesterday about a 13-year-old app developer, who has developed three apps, and he’s making money. They are very popular apps,” Berro says. “You can do anything you want. Just go to my website and see for yourself.”
Berro’s rates vary, depending on the number of pages and features that a client wishes to have included in a website that he designs.
