DETROIT — Longtime Detroit City Councilwoman Brenda Jones was voted into the council presidency this week. There are four new members of the Council that recently won election in November.
The City Council voted 5-4 to elect Jones as president over Saunteel Jenkins, who took on the position after Charles Pugh left the Council following allegations that surfaced over him having an inappropriate relationship with a student he mentored. Jones has been critical of both Detroit Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr and Michigan’s emergency manager law.
